Nizam Uddin Chowdhury, chief executive officer (CEO) of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), ruled out the speculation, stating that they are yet to abandon Fatullah as practice venue for the lone practice match.
It is rife that the one off two-dayer practice match before the two-match Test series has been cancelled.
“The preparation for the practice match in Fatullah was being disrupted repeatedly due to the recent floods and the incessant rains. Despite all these we were optimistic that if the rains are not poured down prior to the practice match, it is then possible to hold the match,” said Nizam Uddin.
“Our preparation is going on in that vein,” Chowdhury told media at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) yesterday.
The fate of the practice match hinges on the report of the visiting advanced security team of the Cricket Australia (CA), who are expected to visit in Fatullah for the second time within week-span period today.
“We held talks with the visiting advanced team of the Cricket Australia (CA). They will go to visit in Fatullah tomorrow and see the current condition of the venue,” the BCB CEO said.
“If they are satisfied then we hope that we could be arranged the 22-23 August practice match in Fatullah,” he also said.
“They have informed us that if the practice match will not take place in Fatullah, in that case, they will not play it in alternative venue. They think that the practice facilities in Mirpur are enough for them prior to the Test series,” he added.
The CEO said that they are attempting their best to prepare the venue for the next practice match, which will be held in due time if the rains are not held any further.
“They had always a priority to play a practice match before the Test series. You all know that the preparation was being disrupted due to the heavy rainfalls. And so we proposed them to some alternative venues and that they had made in-field visit in these venues,” the chief executive said, adding : “Unfortunately they did not take any of those venues in their consideration. So they were seeking to play the practice match in Fatullah. We are trying our utmost best so that the venue in Fatullah is ready for the next practice match.”
“Actually the high-profile teams think in their ways. They told us that BKSP lies on long distance and more times will be needed for them to go there. So they are not considering BKSP to travel there,” he told in response to a query.
