Nasir Hossain kept faith on his natural batting to cement his place in the Test squad once again as the selectors brought him back into the fold after two years following his tremendous performance in the domestic circuit.

Nasir last played against South Africa in 2015 in October last year before he was dropped from the Test team, paying off his prolonged bad form.

He after which did well in the National Cricket League, averaging 109.33 in four innings, but in the Bangladesh Cricket League, he averaged just 30.87 in eight innings.

Bangladesh head coach Chandika Hathurusingha who is also the part of selection panel informed that Nasir was picked as a like-for-like back-up for Mosaddek Hossain, who is suffering from an eye infection.

Nasir however said he thrived in the domestic circuit following his axe from the Test squad on the back of his natural batting and so he wants to keep it up if he gets into the final XI against Australia.

“Everyone has his won natural style. I have also a style. So I want to back that. I played my natural game and got success in the domestic circuit and in the practice match in Chittagong,” Nasir said yesterday.

He wasn’t surprised after having a call into the fold as he said he knew he had the performance which would be tougher to overlook.

“There was challenge with myself. I knew I would have to perform to force my case stronger. I had some plan when I played NCL or BCL. I stuck to my plan and got the success that could convince the selectors,” he informed.

“Performance has been the key, so if you have the performance you can assure yourself that somehow, someway you will get the chance.”

He admitted there will be some pressure on him to deliver this time as the fans protested his axe from the national team more often in the social media outlet in the last two years.

“I have been in the news regardless of whether I am in the team or not. Fans love me so much and they missed me. So it’s a pressure to some extent. If I perform well, the fans will be happy. I’ll try my best to please them,” he added.

Nasir’s aspiration to have a big score looks tougher given he would be batting at No. 6 or 7, a position in which he would have to bat with the lower order batsmen for the most of the time.

The batsman hailed from Rangpur said he is prepared to bat in that tricky position.

“From what I have understood that I would have to bat at No.6 or 7 position. I would have to bat with the lower order batsmen for most of the time. I am mentally prepared for this. I hope I’ll get way to score big runs still in batting with the lower order batsmen.”

He however remain excited to play against Australia.. “They are here after 11 years. Australia is a team which is thoroughly professional. I am excited to get a chance to play against them.”
