Bangladesh Denim Expo to focus on transparency of supply chain

Seventh edition will begin Nov 8

The seventh edition of Bangladesh Denim Expo will begin in the capital on November 8 which will focus on transparency of supply chain to show the buyers and consumers where and how the apparels are being produced.  

The expo is scheduled to be held at the International Convention City Bashundhara, Dhaka on November 8 and 9, says a press release.

Explaining the vision of expo, founder and CEO of Bangladesh Denim Expo Mostafiz Uddin said, “The vision of Bangladesh Denim Expo is to make Bangladesh a sourcing hub by creating a multinational gathering.”

He also said this expo will focus on exposing of new business horizons and greater corporate opportunities for the entire denim value chain as well as uplifting the country’s image to the world.

He also said transparency also means to bring in the issues of workers’ rights, well-being and working conditions under monitoring and accountability. In a World, where ethics and responsibilities are currently questioned, the origin and story behind products is key.

The expo will also focus on transparency and let people to know who make the products, who stitched, who dyed the fabric and who farmed the cotton, said the organiser.

In the upcoming edition, a total of 58 exhibitors from across the world have already confirmed their participation. Of the total visitors 40 are from foreign countries, while 18 are from Bangladesh.

The international denim exhibition in Dhaka keeps growing in numbers and quality of exhibitors, providing a unique insight on Bangladesh denim, for a new edition that is expected to unveil the secrets of the industry.

The sixth edition of ‘Bangladesh Denim Expo’ took place on May 17- 18 at the International Convention City, Bashundhara (ICCB) in the capital. Bangladesh’s denim market is growing at a quick pace, with the country venturing into the manufacture of expensive, high-end products for the global market in a sustainable and environment-friendly manner.

In the field of readymade garments (RMG), Bangladesh is the world’s second largest exporter, but, when it comes to exporting denim, it holds the first and the third positions in its exports to the European Union (EU) and the US respectively.

Bangladesh’s denim shares in the EU and the US in 2014 were 22.88 per cent and 11.35 per cent respectively, while the annual average growth of Bangladesh’s denim exports during 2010–15 was 9.73 per cent.

In 2014, the EU imported denim products from Bangladesh worth EUR 939.02 million, and, in 2015, the figure had risen dramatically to EUR 1176.13 million, registering a growth of 25.25 per cent in one year.
