The National Board of Revenue (NBR) plans to bring 50 lakh people under tax net by 2021, reports BSS.
“We want to bring 50 lakh people under tax net before the golden jubilee celebration of country’s independence,” NBR Member Abdur Razzaque told the news agency.
To this end, he said, NBR is working to knot up 7,000-8,000 people with tax net annually.
The country has now 30 lakh E-TIN holders and as per the plan, NBR has to net another 20 lakh people within this stipulated time.
Terming the country’s tax-GDP ratio as frustrating, the senior NBR official said: “Changing the scenario is a must for the sake of country’s development and that is why tax administrative system is being reshuffled alongside modernisation of tax law.”
NBR is expanding activities to Upazila level and increasing tax survey. The NBR has also directed its field level officials to find out the people who are able to submit minimum tax as such people still remain out of tax net.
