Speakers for preventing money laundering, terror financing

Speakers at a conference have urged the concerned authorities and high officials of insurance companies to put their best efforts to prevent money laundering and terror financing from the insurance sector for sustaining the development, reports BSS.

“Bangladesh is moving forward quickly under the good leadership of the present government and insurance sector is also expanding swiftly. We will have to provide more efforts to keep free the insurance sector from money laundering and terror financing,” said Senior Secretary of the Financial Institutions Division M Eunusur Rahman.

The senior secretary was speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural session of the two-day “Chief Money Laundering Compliance Officers Conference-2017” held Saturday at a hotel in Cox's Bazar, said a release in Dhaka yesterday.

Bangladesh Bank Deputy Governor Abu Hena Mohd. Razee Hassan and Acting Chairman of Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority (IDRA) Gokul Chandra Das were present as special guests.

BB Executive Director and Deputy Head of Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) M Mizanur Rahman Joader presided over the session.

Among others, chief money laundering compliance officers of 78 insurance companies took part in the conference.

Referring the mutual evaluation report, Razee Hasan said, the country's compliance level for money laundering and terror financing is almost alike the developed countries.
