RANGPUR: A special tribunal here on Wednesday framed charges against 12 alleged operatives of outlawed Jama'atul Mujahedeen Bangladesh (JMB) in the murder case of Rahamat Ali, Khadem of Tepamadhupur 'Mazar' (shrine), reports BSS.
The indicted persons are Masud Rana, Esahak Ali, Liton Mian, Abu Sayeed, Shakhawat Hossain, Jahangir Hossain alias Rajib, Sadat alias Ratan, Sarwar Hossain alias Babu, Taufikul Islam, Chandu Mian, Rajibul Islam alias Badal and Babul Akhter. The court also fixed August 23 for the next hearing.
“Of the 12 accused, nine were present on the dock while three others remain absconding,” said Special Public Prosecutor Advocate Rothish Chandra Bhowmick.
A group of unidentified assailants hacked Rahamat Ali, 60, caretaker of Tepamadhupur shrine, to death when he was returning to home from a local kitchen market around 9pm on November 10, 2015, according to the case statement.
Later, Shafikul Islam, son of the deceased, filed a murder case with Kawnia police station.
