Customs officials arrested a Malaysia returned passenger along with 26 gold bars weighing 2.6 kilograms from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital yesterday noon, reports BSS.
“We arrested one Masud Ahmed Chowdhury of Comilla along with 26 gold bars from the Green Channel area of the airport around 12noon,” said assistant commissioner of customs Shahidul Islam.
Ten of those gold bars were seized from cufflink of Masud's shirt while eight from collar of his shirt and eight others from his rectum, he also said.
Estimated price of the seized gold bars weighing 2.6kg is Taka 1.30 crore, he added.
A case was lodged against the arrestee with Bimanbandar Police Station to this end.
Masud was later handed over to police, said the customs official.
