Why are we so concerned about life

By Ashfaque Choudhury
Why are we so concerned about life

The moment we are born we know that we will die. But then again, our whole life we are worried about not dying. We tend to believe that we own the world and we have the power to change it. If that were the case, then why are we so ignorant that we don’t know how or when we will die?

This year, we have seen so many changes in the world. Nationalism is taking over the planet and people are boasting about the power they have over the world. People are trying to build walls so that people can’t enter one’s country.

If you are so powerful, then build such a wall which will stop death from coming to your doorstep. It is hard to believe that we tend to say so many hurtful things to people, and we are not even bothered about what he or she will feel.

A little bit of power changes us and makes us feel invincible. We think that we control the people, we tend to find their tiniest mistakes and think that we are always right.

Recently, I was shocked to see a news clip where the leader of a powerful nation was seen blatantly pushing aside another head of government, just so he could move to the front during a photo op at a meeting of a regional military alliance.

Why do we behave like that over such small things? Power and money are bound to disappear one day. The person you are degrading now may one day turn out to be such a person from whom you may need help.

Earning respect is probably the only earning worth in this world. People should respect you, even if you are not around, that’s the thing we should all believe in.

I am writing this because I am worried about the current situation of the world. Everyone thinks that he or she is the most powerful person in the world, and the rest of the world is nothing.

It is high time for us to stop degrading people, and start respecting others. It is your behaviour and integrity that people will remember even after you leave this world.
