Tangail: A minor boy died and his elder brother sustained severe injuries after they fell into a large bowl while cooking khichuri (one-pot rice dish) at Jugihati village in Ghatail upazila on Tuesday afternoon, reports UNB.
Police said local leaders and activists of Awami League were cooking khichuri on the occasion of the National Mourning Day, marking the 42nd anniversary of the martyrdom of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Nazmul, 8, son of Hasmat Ali of the village, went there along with his younger brother Naimul, 3, on his lap to watch the cooking. They were standing by a big vessel while cooking hotchpotch. Suddenly, both the brothers fell into the container around 4 pm when Nazmul leaned towards it, said officer-in-charge of Ghatail Police Station Mosharraf Hossain.
Locals rescued the siblings and sent them to Tangail General Hospital where Naimul succumbed to his injuries. Nazmul was later shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in a critical condition.
