Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hasan Papon ruled out former Australian spinner Stuart McGill’s possibility to take the charge of Bangladesh spin bowling coach’s role.
He revealed that because of the illness, McGill who was Bangladesh No 1 choice as spin bowling coach, for the time being won’t come.
McGill was supposed to take the role for three months as Papon revealed two weeks ago.
“It’s sure that McGill won’t come for the time being because he is sick now. We have been in talk with other coaches who are in the short list now. Hopefully we’ll get one very soon,” Papon told the reporters at a local hotel in an opinion exchange meeting of hockey organizers in connection with the upcoming polls of Bangladesh Hockey Federation.
India’s former spinner Venkatpathi Raji and Sunil Joshi have been in the line at the moment to take the role.
“They are in the short list but we have been in talk with other coaches also,” the BCB boss added.
Papon at the same time said that the Australian team agreed to play in the BKSP if Fatullah doesn’t get ready in time.
“Earlier they have reservation about BKSP but now they agreed to play here. The positive thing is that their inspection team which is in the country will visit BKSP on 19th August,” Papon informed.
But the BCB chief preferred Fatuallh as the tour practice match of Australia, slated to be held on August 22-23.
He is hopeful that if they get two days and rain stays away Fatullah will be ready to host the practice game.
“As we came to know from different sources that rain will not come again after 19th August, we are hopeful that we can make Fatullah ready for the practice match. It is matter of just two days to get it ready if rain stays away.”
The BCB president however didn’t want to blame National Sports Council for the miserable condition of Fatuallh.
“Actually they have the limitations. What we can do in short period, they can’t do it because they are to go through a rigorous process. They need to take permission and others. We understand their limitation. But it’s also right that we told about Fatullah long days ago. However it will be ready in time if rain stays away.”
