Missions abroad observe Nat’l Mourning Day

Bangladesh Missions abroad observed the National Mourning Day and the 42nd death anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman with due solemnity and special programmes on Tuesday, reports UNB.

The programme began with hoisting the National Flag at half mast in the morning of the day. Discussion meetings were organised which were attended by the officials of the missions and Bangladesh expatriates residing in the respective countries , according to messages received here from various missions abroad.

They vowed to promote Bangabandhu's message of freedom, nationalism, secularism and peace. Officials observed one minute silence to pay deep homage to the Father of the Nation. The messages of President M Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali and State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam were red out before the audience.

The Head of Missions, other officials and the members of the Bangladesh community took part in the discussion meeting. Special prayers were offered seeking salvation and eternal peace of the souls of the Father of the Nation and other members of his family who were brutally assassinated on the black night of 15 August 1975.

The programmes also included an audio visual presentation on the illustrious life and activities of the Father of the Nation. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has observed the 42nd death anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the National Mourning Day with due solemnity.

Foreign Secretary Md Shahidul Haque along with officers took part in the laying of floral wreath programme at Dhanmondi 32 in Dhaka in the early morning on Tuesday.

All the officers of the ministry also participated in a milad mahfil organised by the ministry.

Special munajat was offered seeking salvation of the soul of the Father of the Nation and his martyred family members and for continued peace, progress and prosperity of Bangladesh.
