The Traffic Department of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has destroyed 10,000 hydraulic horns yesterday which were seized from buses and trucks during drive against the illegal horn users to curb noise pollution on the city streets.
This was a part of the DMP drive against the prohibited horn users on the streets, DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia told the reporters yesterday.
Among the different steps the DMP has taken, the commissioner highlighted that there are initiatives to increase the punishment under section 139 of the Motor Vehicles Act.
DMP commissioner urged the drivers not to honk their horns during traffic congestion while launching of campaign against usage of hydraulic horns and measures against the users.
While urging all to be respectful to the law the DMP commissioner urged the BRTA to ensure that vehicles do not have hydraulic horns during fitness tests.
