Expatriate youths urged to ‘stay alert’ against anti-Liberation forces

UNB

Bangladesh Ambassador to Thailand Saida Muna Tasneem yesterday called upon expatriate Bangladeshi youths to stay alert against anti-Liberation, radical and sectarian forces, reports UNB. She also urged the expatriate youths to portray a progressive image of the country emulating Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s indomitable aspirations for Bangali nationalism and his secular, tolerant and democratic values in host countries Thailand and Cambodia.

The ambassador was speaking at a commemorative programme organised by the Embassy of Bangladesh in Thailand on the occasion of the National Mourning Day and 42nd anniversary of the martyrdom of Bangabandhu, according to a message received here from Bangkok.

She paid a rich tribute to Bangabandhu for his fearless leadership of the Banglai nation towards its political and economic emancipation and sovereignty in 1971 and his diplomatic achievements between 1972-75 towards Bangladesh’s international recognition and membership in the UN.

Deputy Leader of Bangladesh Parliament Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury was present at the National Mourning Day programme as the chief guest.

She recalled the glorious life and works of Bangabandhu and called upon the expatriate Bangladeshis to always hold their heads high and feel proud of their Bangalee roots as did Father of the Nation Bangabandhu.

A number of eminent Bangladeshis participated in the discussion session including Dr Khalilur Rahman, Country Representative of WHO in Bangkok.

The programme of the Day started with lowering the National Flag at half-mast by Bangladesh Ambassador to Thailand. A Milad Mahfil followed by a special prayer was offered for the salvation and peace of the departed souls of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu and other members of his family who were assassinated on the black night of 15 August 1975.

At the very beginning of the discussion session, a minute of silence was observed to pay respect to the Father of the Nation and martyrs of 15 August night,

Deputy Leader of Bangladesh Parliament and Bangladesh Ambassador along with officials of the embassy and expatriate Bangladeshis community laid floral wreath at the portrait of the Father of the Nation to mark the occasion.

Thai students from a local school also paid homage by placing wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu. The programme was attended by a large number of expatriate Bangladeshis living in Thailand including from UNESCAP and other International organisations, businessmen and Bangladeshi students studying in different Thai Universities as well as local Thai students and people who also spoke at the discussion.
