National Mourning Day observed at varsities
The National Mourning Day- 2017 was observed at several public and private universities yesterday with paying rich tribute to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Bangabandhu.
Dhaka University (DU) Vice-chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique on Tuesday gives emphasis on identifying the conspirators behind the killing of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members on August 15, 1975. He said this at a discussion on “Life and Work of Bangabandhu” organised at TSC Auditorium of DU in observance of the National Mourning Day.
Dhaka University Pro-Vice-chancellor (Admn) Prof Dr Akhgteruzzamna, Treasurer Prof Dr M Kamal Uddin, Dhaka University Teachers Association president Prof ASM Maksud Kamal and general secretary Prof Rahmat Ullah were also attend among others on the discussion.
Prof Arefin Siddique said, “Killing of Bangabandhu along with his family members should not be viewed as the killing of an individual” “So, it should be given highest priority. Those who were involved in the killings on August 15, they should be identified”.
Meanwhile, a art competition also held at TSC and Fine Arts Faculty organised by DU and Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) marking 42th martyrdom of Bangabandhu.
Besides, Dhaka University Journalists Association (DUJA) organised a photo exhibition titled ‘Bangabandhu and Bangladesh’ at the indoor premises of TSC with about hundred rear photographs on Bangabandhu and Liberation War.
Our Rajshahi University Correspondent adds: The authorities of Rajshahi University (RU) observed National Mourning Day with due respect and solemnity yesterday.
The programmes were started with hoisting national flag half mast atop every academic, administrative building and dormitories within sunrise and placing wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and also arranged art competition among the RU Sheikh Rasel Model School students.
Wearing black badges, a mourning rally at 7.00 am led by RU Vice-chancellor Prof Dr M Abdus Sobhan with the participation of teachers, officials and students was started from Senate Building and that terminated at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall premises. After placing wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, a short discussion meeting was held on the Shaheed Minar premises where RU National Mourning Day observance committee convener and also pro vice chancellor Prof Dr Ananda Kumar Saha presided over the programme while student adviser Prof Dr Mizanur Rahman conducted it.
BSS a dds from Rangpur: The National Mourning Day- 2017 was observed at Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) yesterday. The observance began with hoisting of black flag and national flag at half mast atop at the administrative building followed by bringing out of a mourning procession, placing wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu at Independence Memorial on the campus.
A one-minute silence was observed in front of the portrait of Bangabandhu. Special munajats were offered at Central Mosque after Johr prayers seeking divine blessings for the departed souls of Bangabandhu and all other martyrs of black night of August 15 in 1975.
East West University (EWU) observed the National Mourning Day and paid homage to the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman with due solemnity and honor marking his 42th death anniversary on the university campus, Aftabnagar, Dhaka.
Chairperson of the Board of Trustees (EWU) and former Personal Secretary of Bangabandhu, Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. M.M. Shahidul Hassan, Treasurer, Deans, and Chairpersons of the different departments, faculty members, staffs and few students of the university were present on this occasion.
Teachers, students and staffs of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) paid homage to the architect of the independence Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing wreaths at the Bangabandhu Smriti Chattar on the campus yesterday. Earlier, the university authorities brought out a mourning rally in where teachers, students, officers, leaders and activists of different political and cultural organisations wearing black badges took part that paraded all important roads of the university. Later, a discussion meeting on Bangabandhu was held at the conference room of Teacher Students’ Centre (TSC) of the university.
IU postpones today’s Fazil second year exam
ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY: Islamic University (IU) authorities have postponed Fazil second year examination scheduled for today due to floods in the northern districts.
The decision came at an emergency meeting of the university with its vice-chancellor Prof Dr M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari in the chair.
IU deputy controller of examinations, M Arif Mollah, told UNB that they postponed the Arabic first part examination following the order of the university vice-chancellor.
The next date of the examination would be published soon on the university website - www.iu.ac.bd, he added.
