At least 11 Dhaka University (DU) students were handed over to Shahbagh Police Station Tuesday afternoon for their alleged involvement with tear up the poster of national mourning day.
Of them four are the activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League and others are no-political students of Bijoy Ekattor Hall, confirmed by hall unit BCL.
The accused are Asif Hossain of Banking and Insurance department, Riaz Uddin of Islamic History and Culture dept, Azim Uddin of Psychology, Mahmudul Hasan of Islamic Studies dept, Moksedul Alam of International Relations, Monir Hossain of Pali and Buddhist Studies, GM Bayazid Islam of Philosophy, Arafat Islam of Accounting Information Systems, Ehsan Ahmed of International Relations, Obaidul Haque Bhuiyan of Tourism and Hospitality Management, Shahin Uzzaman of Sociology. Professor AJM Shafiul Alam Bhuiyan, provost of Bijoy Ekattor Hall said “They tore up the poster of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Monday night and after that it becomes viral in social media. Hearing the news we checked the footage and identified them. The accused students were handed over to the police with the presence of university proctor body.”
President of Bijoy Ekattor Hall BCL unit Fakir Rasel Ahmed confirmed 4 of them are inactive members of Chhatra League and said, “Some torn the posters intentionally”.
The accused students are identified through CC TV footage and they are in Shahagbag Police Station now to further investigation, officer in charge Abul Hasan said.
