People of different districts yesterday observed the National Mourning Day and 42nd martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman with due solemnity.
In Manikganj, to mark the day district administration and different organisations chalked out various programmes including discussion meetings, condolence rally, prize distribution function among the winners of painting competitions, essay writing, recitation competition for children.
The day long programme began with the hoisting of the national flag at half-mast and the raising of black flags atop all the government, semi-government, autonomous and private buildings in the morning as a mark of respect to the martyrs of the August 15 carnage.
In the morning state minister of health and family welfare Alhaj Zahid Malek Shapan, MP, Deputy Commissioner of Manikganj Nazmus Shadat Selim, Police Super Mahfuzur Rahman, mayor of Manikganj Municipality Gazi Kamrul Huda Selim, different political parties, socio-cultural organisatons, educational institutions placed floral wreaths showing respect to the Father of the Nation.
In Chuadanga, the day was observed through different programmes. District administration, upazila administrations, union parishads, political parties, socio-cultural organisations, educational institutes arranged different programmes including discussion meetings, rallies, essay competitions, poem reciting, special munajat for peace of the soul of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members.
In Bogra, mourning procession and discussion programmes were held on this occasion demanding quick punishment of the killers of this great leader.
In the morning, Nure Alam Siddque, DC of Bogra hoisted the national flag at half-mast in presence of all officials of district administration on Bogra Zila School ground.
Asadujjaman, Police super of Bogra was present there. After the congress at Bogra Zila School ground, a mourning procession was brought out in the town.
In Jamalpur, a discussion meeting was held at the conference room of judgeship building to mark the National Mourning Day.
District and Sessions Judge Md Sayedur Rahman Khan yesterday said Bangabandhu always taught us to respect general people.
The meeting was addressed by Chief Judicial Magistrate Majibar Rahman, President of District Bar Association, Amanullah Akash, secretary of District Bar Council, Shafiqul Islam Akkas, and Senior Judicial Magistrate Nazmul Haque, among others.
In Noakhali, to mark the 42nd martyrdom anniversary of Father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheik Mujibur Rahman Noakhali Municipality arranged ‘milad mahfil’, discussion meetings and many other programmes yesterday.
A discussion meeting was held at the Noakhali Municipality ground on the occasion. Ekramul Karim Chowdhury, MP attended the programme as chief guest while Mayor Shahid Ullah Khan presided over the discussion. District AL leader Mahamodur Rahman Javed also attended the programme.
Noakhali science and Technology University (NSTU), Noakhali Government college, different social and cultural organisation also arranged different programmes to mark the day.
In Panchagarh, the National Mourning Day was observed with due respect and solemnity through different programmes.
District administration, Awami League and its associate organisations, educational institutions chalked out elaborate daylong programmes to observe the day.
The programmes included hoisting of the national flag at half-mast in all government, private buildings and educational institutions, placing of wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu, wearing of black badges and bringing out mourning procession.
