Bangladesh have quality fast bowlers in the arsenal that could pose threat to any team at any condition, a thing that they proved on so many occasions. If they can live up to the expectation, fast bowler Shafiul Islam believes, they will have every reason to fare well against the top-notch Australia in the upcoming Test series. “Actually the pace bowling department we have now in Bangladesh is better than the previous occasions. It has been stronger enough to get the better of any team,” said Shafiul Islam.

“If we can play to our potential and give our best efforts the better result against Australia will be possible,” Shafiul told reporters after their intense practice session yesterday at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. Reverse-swing would be key to the success, according to Shafiul. He said that they have quality fast bowlers in the stock who could bowl well with both the new and the old balls.

“In our condition, the old ball is effective like the new ball. I saw this during the home series against England,” the 27-year-old paceman added.

“Here the reverse swing is possible with the old ball. We have now such pacers who could bowl so fast. If we could maintain the line and length, it is then possible to do well with the old ball,” he thought.

“Actually we have every quality bowlers who can thrive in with both new and old balls,” he pointed out.

Even though a spinning-track is on the card, the seamer said that they are ready to play on any wicket what will be given for the next series against the top-flight Australia in August-September Test series at home yard.

“We have to play whatever pitch is built for the series. If spin-friendly wicket is built then the pacers have to help them for the success. But if pace-friendly wicket is built in that case, spinners have to help us for the team’s success. Pacer bowlers have always importance. In new ball, if the pacer bowlers could give breakthrough it will then be better for the team,” he told.

The injury-prone bowler, who missed the last few series for Bangladesh due to his injury, is much aware of his fitness. He said that he is doing fitness camp as per the guideline of the coaching staffs so that his injury could not recur ahead of the next two back-to-back important series against Australia and South Africa.

“Actually I’m worried about my injury because I missed the last few series due to my injury. You all know that I fell into injury to play the last group phase of the BPL. I’m doing my own work and the matter of injury is not in my hand. I’m doing my work and fitness training so that injury does not recur,” he said.

When asked about his goal, Shafiul Islam said that he will try to return to the national fold and then attempt to consolidate his position in the team.

“My goal will have to fare well so that I can back in the team strongly. Along with that, I’ll try to contribute for the team. I will try to discharge my duty as a pace bowler,” he told in response to query.  Fast bowling coach Courtney Walsh held a long session with the pace bowlers at the Indoor Stadium.

“The last practice match we played in Chittagong all the bowlers could not get chance to bowl what they should have. For this the long training session has been held for the bowlers, I think so,” he said.

The yesterday’s practice was Bangladesh first practice session in Dhaka after they held a practice session and warm-up match in Chittagong. Head coach Chandika Hathurusingha who sustained an ankle injury in Chittagong supervised the session even though he needed crutch to walk.
