Customs Intelligence and Investigation Department (CIID) on Saturday arrested a young man along with 140 gold bars weighing 16.25 kg from Baitul Mukarram Market in the capital, reports UNB.
The arrestee was identified as Rabiul Islam, 22.
Following secret information that a big consignment of gold bars would come to the market illegally, CIID director general Dr Moinul Khan directed a team to start vigilance there.
DG Moinul also sought assistance from Bangladesh Jewellers Samity and some jewellery ornament traders to seize the consignment, said CIID assistant director Shahiduzzaman.
On Saturday morning, a CIID team, led by assistant director Zakaria, arrested Rabiul in association with the local traders along with the gold consignment around 5:20 pm.
