Stress on checking crimes thru community policing

Speakers at a function here on Wednesday underscored the need for checking crimes through making on-going community policing activities successful by mutual cooperation between police and people at grass roots, reports BSS. Successful functioning of the community policing and community participation are essential to make the society free from all sorts of crimes,, they said.
They made the comments while addressing a community policing meeting organized by district police on the premises of Shaghata police station on Tuesday afternoon.
Deputy Speaker of the Jatiya Sangshad and local lawmaker Advocate Fazle Rabbi Miah addressed the function as the chief guest while superintendent of police (SP) M. Masrukur Rahman Khaled presided over the meeting.
Convener of thana community policing coordination committee freedom fighter Abdul Mannan and member secretary Nazmul Huda spoke at the function, among others, while officer in charge of the thana M. Mostafizur Rahman was the moderator.
Deputy Speaker Advocate Fazle Rabbi Miah in his speeches said importance should be given to making the local people aware about the community policing so that they could play their due role to maintain peaceful situation at their respective localities.
Terming the community policing as a modern concepts and philosophy, Advocate Rabbi said the community policing activities should be made popular with the close supervision of the police officials.
SP M. Mashrukur Rahman Khaled in his presidential speeches said community policing with the help of community people would identify the source of crimes in the society and assist police forces to prevent crimes aimed at improving law and order situation. The SP also urged the members of the community policing to be serious more and to strengthen the community policing activities in a bid to address root causes of crimes.
