Internet users cross 7cr mark in June
Mobile subscription reaches 13.59cr

The country has been experiencing a rapid rise in the number of internet and mobile phone users with the latest figure though there is discontent among the mobile phone subscribers regarding the low spread of internet and call drop.
Internet users in Bangladesh surpassed 7 crore mark as the first six months of this year registered 67.24 lakh new users that took the tally to 7.34 crore at the end of June.
The number of internet connection stands at 7 crore 33 lakh 47 thousands in June this year from 6 crore 30 lakh, 29 thousands during the same period of last year. Also, the number of mobile subscribers reached at 13 crore 59 lakh 82 thousands in June this year from 13 crore 10 lakh, 37 thousands in June of last year, said a report of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission yesterday.
According to the report, WiMAX operators are losing customers gradually as their users stood at only 75,000 in June this year against 3.52 lakh in June last year.
Market leader Grameenphone took the top position bagging 6.15 crore customers followed by Robi after merger with Airtel 3.95 crore, Banglalink 3.15 crore and state-owned Teletalk 32.60 lakh customers.
BTRC Chairman Dr Shahjahan Mahmood said the number of subscribers of mobile phone operators have been increased due to the initiative taken by the telecom regulator to improve the quality of services.
According to the latest statistics released by the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), over 93.60 per cent or 6.86 crore users browse internet through mobile phone.
