Activists Bangladesh Chhatra League, student’s front of ruling Awami League, chased leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), a student wing of Bangladesh Nationalist Party yesterday afternoon while they are coming to join an open discussion demanding DUCSU poll.
A group of general students along with left leaning student organisations arranged the open discussion with all student organisations on the campus except Islami Chhatra Shibir in front of Modhu’s Canteen.
Chhatra League and vice-chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique did not participate in the open discussion although all of the leaders of student organisations and vice-chancellor were invited.
Witnesses said some 70-80 leaders and activists led by Chhatra Dal DU chapter president Al Mehedi and general secretary Abul Bashar Siddique went to Modhu’s Canteen to attend the discussion around 11:00am.
Knowing the presence of JCD leaders Chhatra League leaders and activists gathered at Modhu’s canteen and ‘chased’ them out from the campus.
General Secretary of Chhatra Dal, DU unit Abul Bashar Siddique said, “We came to join the discussion about DUCSU but Chhatra League chased us without any reason.”
On the other hand Chhatra League DU chapter president Abid Al Hasan said “Chhatra Dal were trying to create anarchy, that’s why we chased them” .
Representatives from General students, Chhatra Federation, Chhatra Union, Chhatra Union Socialists Students Front and students from different department participate in the discussion.
Convener of the movement, Masud Al Mahadi said they invited three representatives from Chhatra Dal but they came with a showdown and later Chhatra League activists chased them which is very much unfortunate and undemocratic. He also said there were no representatives from the university authority at the discussion and it means they don’t wants DUCSU poll here.
