Thrilling one wicket win for HP team

Bangladesh High Performance (HP) team got a hard-fought one-wicket win over Under-19 team in a practice match at National Academy ground in the capital yesterday.

The match remained unfinished due to rain on Wednesday after Under-19 side was bundled out for 209 in just 35.5 overs with captain Saif Hasan fought lonely for the side, hitting 89 runs. However on Thursday, both team started from where they left as the target was set for the HP team for 240. Under-19’s young players made the task tough for the HP players in a show of spirited performance. Sill they couldn’t resist the seniors as the HP sailed home in the last ball of the last over. Under-19 bowler Robiul gave just one runs in five balls before Nihadduzaman hit six in the last ball to pick up the victory. Zakir Hasan made highest 58 while skipper Mehedi Maruf scored 27. Nihaduzzaman was unbeaten on 27. HP fast bowler Ebadat Hossain who claimed four wickets in his side’s victory said the practice match came as good for them to show their skill.

He also informed that the two sides will play three more practice matches on August 13, 16 and 19. “I am now more confident than the past. I have worked with national team’s fast bowling coach Courtney Walsh. He gave me some tips. Simon Helmot also helped me a lot. Hopefully I’ll improve more in the coming days,” said the pace bowler who suddenly came to the competitive cricket following a fast bowling competition.
