About 709 persons received legal aid in Tangail in 2014 under National Legal Aid Sangstha.
It was disclosed during an opinion exchange meeting held on the premises of the office of chief judicial magistrate court on Wednesday.
Legal Aid officer of Tangail district and senior Assistant Judge of Tangail Mohammad Shaidul Islam spoke the journalists in Legal Aid Office. He said that every man and women whose income does not exceed Tk 1 lakh and Tk 1.5 lakh annually are eligible to get the free legal aid. Under the programme, everybody irrespective of plaintiff and accused, man and woman are entitled to get the support.
So far, 636 persons have received legal aid in 2015, the Legal Aid officer informed the meeting, adding that out of 709 cases last year 298 cases were disposed off. The programmes have been undertaken under the monetary help of USID’s Justice For All in collaboration with National Legal Aid providing agency of the Bangladesh government.
