Sirajganj mayor suspended

Advocate M Mokaddes Ali, Mayor of Sirajganj Municipality and also General Secretary of Sirajganj District BNP has been temporarily suspended from his mayoral post for negligence in duty and absence at work place for a long time.
Panel Mayor Selim Ahmed has replaced him as an Acting Mayor, Abu Nur Md Shamsuddin, Deputy Director of Local Government Division in Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) office in Sirajganj said yesterday.
Shamsuddin said a latter issued by Ministry for Local Government reached his office by fax on Thursday evening.
Nurul Islam, Second Officer of Sirajganj Sadar thana, said that Advocate M Mokaddes Ali was accused in five cases, including four for torching train in the Mulibari area on October 11, 2010 during the grand rally of Begum Khaleda Zia.
Other cases were filed against him for violence, creating obstruction in police duty and carrying out vandalism on vehicles during the BNP and its alliance’s movements. To avert arrest, the mayor has been absconding for long, he added.
While contacted, M Mokaddes Ali told this correspondent over cell phone that the suspension order has been issued against him out of political zealous and vengeance.
