Ferry services has not yet resumed on Bhola-Laxmipur route, which was snapped due to collapse of two-km approach road to Ilisha terminal on July 25 by the Meghna River erosion.
Immediately after the suspension of the ferry services Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed visited the spot and directed the water board officials to protect the river bank from erosion and save the ferry terminal.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority Chairman Mozzammel Hoque has visited the spot and directed to shift the ferry terminal to nearby Gazipur launch terminal within a shortest possible time.
Although the work on shifting the terminal began a week ago it has not been completed.
However, Shah Newaz Kabir, executive engineer of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority in Barisal, said they expect the ferry services to resume in a couple of days after completion of construction work of new ferry terminal in Gazipur terminal. Divisional commissioner of Barisal Md Gaous visited the place and directed the contractor there to complete the construction of terminal and resume ferry services immediately.
