Ctg Abahani beat Mohammedan

Chittagong Abahani Limited earned their second successive win yesterday defeating Mohammedan Sporting Club 1-nil in the Bangladesh Premier League football at Bangabandhu National Stadium.

The rain affected ground became worse after the first match and it was very difficult for the players to demonstrate their usual game in the heavy ground yesterday.

However, after a goalless first half Towhidul Alam Sabjuz struck the all important goal of the match to earn an important win for Chittagong Abahani.  

With the Chittagong side bagging their second success, it was the second consecutive defeat for Mohammedan as the Dhaka giants went down to Sheikh Jamal 0-2 in their opener.       

Mohammedan Sporting Club, who played without their Indian coach Syed Nayeemuddin, were under pressure most of the time and just survived from early scares when goalkeeper Mamun Khan made a brilliant save of a strong effort from Zahid Hossain in an one on one situation at the cost of a corner.

Following the halted Zahid effort, chances were created again for Chittagong Abahani with a pin-pointed corner kick from the left flank that fell into the danger area but consecutive attempts from forwards failed to meet their targets.

It was almost one way traffic, when the Port City giants turned the match into one-sided game squeezing Mohammedan defense throughout the stipulated 90 minutes game but the forwards disappointed failing to translate any of their strong moves into goal for 68 minutes.

The Chittagong side finally found the net on the 69th minute when a Zahid corner originated the close range scoring occasion for Towhidul Alam Sabuj to finish from a handshake-distance (1-0).

Zahid Hossain of Abahani and Faisal Mahmud of Mohammedan got marching order on the 85th minute.
