Shaheed Kamruzzaman Degree College of Rajshahi toppled Dhaka University 55-33 in the opening match of the Muktijoddha Kazi Kamal Uddin Inter College & University Basketball Tournament yesterday. The winners led the first half 37-14.
Twelve teams divided into four groups are taking part in the tournament at Dhanmondi Basketball Gymnasium in the capital.
Notre Dame University defeated Islamic University of Gazipur 51-11 in the other match of the day.
Bangladesh Basketball Federation General Secretary Lt Commander (retd) A K Sarker inaugurated the tournament as chief guest. In his speech Sarker recalled Kamal’s contribution in basketball in the then East Pakistan and later as an official after the Liberation War. The valiant freedom fighter encouraged a number of cagers at national level to show their mettle.
