Activities at Chittagong Customs halted for three hours as the members of C&F (Clearing and Forwarding) agent employers’ association have staged a three-hour work abstention demanding the suspension of the license of their two leaders.
They went into work abstention from 9am to 12am. No work related to export and import had taken place at Chittagong Customs House during their work abstention.
On January 16, a group of Clearing and Forwarding (C&F) workers attacked an assistant commissioner (AC) named Abu Hanif Mohammad Ahad of Chittagong Customs and besieged him for two hours. They vandalised the office of the AC and hurled brickbats on him.
Following the incident Chittagong Customs House suspended the licence of Md Manjur Alam Bhiuyan, member welfare secretary, and served show case notice to Zakir Hossain, general secretary of C&F Agent Employers’ Association.
“Protesting the show case notice and suspension of licence, we have observed sit-in programme stopping work for three hours. We have informed custom authorities about our demand,” said Zakir Hossain, general secretary of C&F Agent Employers’ Association.
“If the authorities do not meet our demand by Sunday, we will go for tougher movement from Monday. Then we will observe full-day work abstention,” said Zakir Hossain.
“I have no comments regarding this. The licences were suspended as they were found guilty,” said AFM Abdullah Kahn, commissioner of Chittagong Customs House.
