RAJSHAHI: More than 340 drug-addicts and traders here returned back to normal life through various motivational and anti-drugs campaign, reports BSS. Police, members of community policing and other government organizations concerned joined hands and work together with the noble initiative to protect people, particularly young generation, from the drug-addiction.
The observations came in a meeting arranged to accord a reception to them at Nanking Darbar Hall in the city yesterday afternoon. Community Poling Forum hosted the meeting.
On the occasion, the people who, returned to normal life expressed their commitment of refraining themselves from the crimes. Many of them were rehabilitated with cash money, sewing machines and rickshaw-vans.
Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Md Shafiqul Islam addressed the meeting as chief guest with Azizul Alam Bentu, President of Rajpara Community Policing Forum, in the chair. Deputy Commissioners Amir Jafar and Tanveer Haider Chowdhury and Senior Assistant Commissioner Ifte Khayer Alam also spoke.
RMP Chief Shafiqul Islam sought community support to make the society free from addiction, trading and trafficking of drugs.
He said people should extend their cooperation with specific information about the criminals as they know well about their location.
Shafiqul Islam also urged the members of the law enforcement agencies and others concerned to step up their anti-drug drives to make the society free from the curse.
He mentioned that alternative income generation and self-employment for the persons concerned can be vital means of eradicating the practice of smuggling, trading and trafficking of drugs.
All government, non-government and other voluntary and philanthropic organizations should come forward and work together to protect the young generation from degradation through freeing the society from the deadly crimes, the RMP commissioner added.
