Operational activities of Rajshahi Medical University soon
RAJSHAHI: Operational activities of Rajshahi Medical University (RMU) will start very soon aims at improving and expanding scopes of medical education, research and treatment in the region.
Around 40 institutions including public and private medical, dental and nursing colleges and institutes of health technologies in Rajshahi, Rangpur and Khulna divisions will launch their academic activities under the university from this current 2017-18 session.
Vice-chancellor of the university Prof Dr Masum Habib disclosed this at a view-sharing meeting with heads of the institutions at a conference of Rajshahi Medical College (RMC) here on Monday. Prof Habib told the meeting that there is an instruction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina relating to quick implementation of the university through improving academic activities with addition of time-fitting course and curriculum.
The university will conduct 90 post-graduate courses under eight faculties from now on, he added. Besides, there will be a 1000-bed modern hospital attached to the university. A nursing institute will also be established for producing skilled nurses.
Prof Habib said all necessary activities will be done with transparency and accountability in order to generating skilled manpower in the field of medical research and treatment.
RMC Principal Prof Dr Anwar Habib, Director of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital Brig Gen Rafiqul Islam, Divisional Director of Health Dr Abdus Sobhan and others concerned were present at the meeting.
55th founding day of DU Journalism Department observed
Dhaka: The Mass Communication and Journalism (MCJ) Department of Dhaka University (DU) observed its 55th founding day on Wednesday, reports UNB.
The theme of the day was ‘We are brave in search of truth, always awake’.
Teachers and students of the department brought out a procession and held a discussion on the occasion. The rally, led by DU Vice-chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique, started from the altar of the Aparajeya Bangla of the university and marched through the important points on the campus before ending the Lecture Theatre Building premises.
A discussion on ‘Interactions of Bangabandhu with people: Medium and Theme’ was held at the RC Majumdar Auditorium on the campus where eminent journalist and columnist Syed Badrul Ahsan presented the keynote speech.
Prof Sakhawat Ali Khan and Chief Information Commissioner Prof Dr Golam Rahman addressed the meeting with department Chairperson Prof Mofizur Rahman in the chair.
The DU VC also distributed prizes among the champion students who participated in different cultural events.
New committee of BAU unit Bangladesh Chhatra Union formed
New committee of Bangladesh Chhatra Union of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) unit in Mymensingh has been formed in its 28th conference on Friday.
Al Muzahid Mridul and Dhrubo Joti Singho were selected as the president and general secretary of the new committee, respectively.
GM Gilani Shuvo, president of central Chhatra Union inaugurated the programme at the basement of ‘Bijoy 71’, a liberation war monument on the BAU campus in where journalist Kamal Lohani attended as the chief guest.
Later, a discussion programme was held at the Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin auditorium of BAU in were Students Affairs’ Adviser Prof Dr SD Chawdhury and proctor of BAU Prof Dr Md. Atikur Rahman attended. Other members of the committee are- Safaet Hossain and Mouita Guho Iva as vice-president, Aniruddho Ray Chawdhury and Polash Chakkraborti as assistant-general secretary, Ananno-eid-e-amin as organising secretary, Syed Maidul Islam as treasurer, Md. Navid Rahman as office secretary, Zubaer Ibne Kamal as education and research secretary, Mosaddek Shawon as press and publication secretary, Suborna Benarjee as cultural secretary.
