Tufan, 3 others remanded again

A court in Bogra yesterday placed four accused, including the prime one, on different terms of fresh remand in two cases filed for shaving the heads of a female student and her mother after the rape of the girl allegedly by a local Sramik League leader, reports UNB from Bogra.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Shyam Sundar Roy passed the order after they were produced before the court seeking a seven-day remand for each of them.
The prime accused, Tufan Sarkar, and his associate Munna were put on a two-day remand while his wife Asha Sarkar and mother in-law Rumi Khatun on a one-day remand.
Meanwhile, police halted a broom procession brought out by Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal protesting the incident.
Earlier on July 17, Tufan took the girl to his house at Badurtala in the district town promising to arrange her admission into a local college and raped her there When Tufans wife Asha and her elder sister Rumki came to know the incident, they along with some associates picked up the girl and her mother from their house. They allegedly beat the girl and her mother with sticks and got cut down the hair of their heads. At one stage, the offenders got their heads shaved done by a barber.
