Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday asked the authorities concerned to take necessary steps for the conservation and renovation of the archaeological sites in Dhaka city, reports UNB.
She gave the directives in a meeting with the senior officials of the Cultural Affairs Ministry, Archaeology Department and Rajuk at her office.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim said Archeology Department Director General Altaf Hossain gave a PowerPoint presentation on the present condition of the 93 archaeological sites in the city.
The Prime Minister gave directives on which sites should be demolished and which should be protected and renovated considering their historical importance, he said.
PM’s Principal Secretary Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, PMO Senior Secretary Suraiya Begum, Cultural Affairs Secretary Md Ibraheem Hosein Khan, Public Works Secretary MdShahid Ullah Khandaker and Rajuk Chairman Md Abdur Rahman were present at the meeting.
