Scientists discover way to cultivate Tengra

A group of scientists of Fresh Water Sub-station of Syedpur under Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute have discovered an artificial way to cultivate Tengra fish, one of the almost extinct fish varieties of the country, reports UNB from Nilphamari.

Chief scientific officer Maliha Hossain and Shawkat Ahmad came up with the method.

Currently, Tengra is cultivated in some 38 ponds of six upazilas, said Shawkat. Any type of water body (Beel) is suitable for Tengra cultivation, he added. April to August is the breeding season for Tengra.

To cultivate the fish item, eight to 10 grams of Tengra fish have to be released on a prepared pond and later, fish fries will be produced by artificial breeding.
