BRAC University authorities have reconstituted the inquiry committee after consultation with students and alumni mentioning that the administration has taken the incident that took place on July 30 'extremely seriously', reports UNB.
In a statement on Wednesday, the university said they are fully committed to resolving the matter to restore normal academic environment by ensuring complete and fair investigation into the incident. The members of the inquiry committee are Prof AFM Yusuf Haider, Chairperson, Dept. of Mathematics and Natural Sciences and former Pro-VC of Dhaka University- Chairperson, Prof Syed Manzoorul Islam, Former Chair, Dept of English, Dhaka University, Afsan Chowdhury, Prof, BRAC University , Tajdin Hassan, President, Alumni Association, BRAC University and one student representative (to be confirmed).
The committee has been tasked with the following ascertain the chain of events on July 30 and identify discrepancies both in terms of facts and interpretations; and ascertain whether the principle of due process was followed regarding the ending of Farhaan Uddin Ahmed's contract; and put forward their findings and recommendations within five working days (if not before) from August 3 to resolve the current situation.
They may also recommend changes in policies and guidelines. The administration has also cancelled all the classes for August 2-3. All the exams will, however, continue as per schedule. Lecturer of the law department Farhaan Uddin Ahmed filed a complaint against Registrar Muhammad Sahool Afzal, Assistant Registrar Md Mahi Uddin and senior officer at the office of co-curricular activities Jabed Rasel over the alleged assault on him on Sunday.
