A discussion and cultural programme on Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore marking his 74th death anniversary of was held at Barisal Aswani Kumar Hall in the city on Thursday night. Jatiya Rabindra Sangeet Sammelan Parishad (JRSSP), Barisal unit, organized the programme. Gazi Md Sayfuzaman, deputy commissioner Barisal, was the chief guest while chairman of Barisal Education Board Md Ziaul Haque inaugurated the programmes by lighting the ‘mongol pradip’ with other guests. The programmes included discussions on life and achievements of the great poet Tagore, poetry recitation, dance and dramas were held in the event. Nazrul Islam Chunnu, president of Jatiya Rabindra Sangeet Sammelan Parishad, Barisal unit, presided over the ceremonies. The programme was addressed, by senior cultural personalities Nikil Shen, Mir Mujtaba Ali, Advocate SM Iqbal, member Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy district committee, Kajal Ghosh, Shamima Masud Munni, Dev Dulal Guha, among others. The speakers at the programme stressed on research and study on writings and philosophy of Tagore for building a non-communal, intellectually enlightened, cultured, progressive, open and broad-minded humanist nation. They speakers called to to expand the practice and propagate the internal themes of the songs of Rabindranath Tagore to prevent pollution and combat aggression of bad, obscene, foreign culture.
