Students demand punishment of headmaster

Students of Baghia High School in the city demanded exemplary punishment of the headmaster for alleged sexual harassment of two female students of the school. They formed a human chain and staged a demonstration on the premises of the school at Konabari in the city demanding withdrawal and punishment of headmaster Babul Hossain on Thursday. The school was declared closed for the day. Local sources said Babul Hossain, the headmaster of Konabari Baghia High School, allegedly gave proposal of illicit relationship to two class IX students of the school recently. The headmaster threatened to lessen their numbers in the test examinations if they did not agree to his proposal. At one stage, the girls recorded conversation of the headmaster on mobile phone and leaked it out among the other students, guardians and local people that created hard reaction among them. Students of the school have been continuing demonstration programme demanding withdrawal and punishment of the headmaster since Wednesday.
On Thursday, the students boycotted their classes and staged demonstration at the point. They formed a human chain in front of the school demanding immediate arrest and punishment of the headmaster, Babul Hossain. Chairman of the school managing committee Hazi Samsuddin said, I heard the news of sexual harassment by headmaster of the school. But, no one submitted any written complaint to the managing committee against the headmaster. He said there remains evidence of the sexual harassment by the headmaster on an audio record.
On Wednesday, the headmaster was asked to show cause within three days. We will take next step after getting answer from the headmaster, he added. Sub-inspector of Konabari police outpost Mobarak Hossain said some students of the school tried to besiege the house of the headmaster but failed in the face of resistance by locals.
