BCC chief engineer gets show cause notice

Nurul Islam, chief engineer of Barisal City Corporation (BCC), has received a show cause notice from Local Government and Rural Development Ministry (LGRD) for irregularities in promotion of some employees of the corporation. He was asked to give reply to the notice within seven working days. Barisal City Corporation Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ranajit Karmakar on Thursday confirmed this. He said after Nikhil Chandra Das, CEO of BCC, was transferred, Nurul Islam performed duty of acting CEO. At that time, he promoted 58 master roll workers to permanent posts irregularly. Parimal Kumar Dey, joint secretary of the ministry, investigated the allegation and Soroj Kumar Debnath, deputy secretary of LGRD Ministry issued this notice, he added. Nurul Islam acknowledged the fact but he declined to make any comment.
