Khaled Mahmud Sujan, chairman of BCB game development, said that they are trying to rope in the third team for the proposed tri-nation series for the Bangladesh Under-19 team ahead of the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup.
Bangladesh will host the next edition of the flagship event, which will be played by 16 teams at different eight grounds of four venues in the country next year, spanning from January 20 to February 15.
“We have planned to arrange a tri-national tournament for the youth team ahead of their showcase event. Zimbabwe was agreed to play but neither Pakistan nor India or Sri Lanka are interested. They showed their interest to play bilateral series with us,” said Khaled Mahmud Sujan yesterday.
“We are communicating with other countries. Hopefully we will get a result within this month,” Sujan told The Independent.
This year Bangladesh Under-19 played three home and away series and they clinched all the three straight series. The junior Tigers played an away series with Sri Lanka and routed them by 3-2 at their home yard. Even they trounced defending champions South Africa in both home and away series with considerable margin. In abroad, the youth side stunned the junior Proteas by 5-2 following their (South Africa) shocking drubbing 6-1 at home den.
It is known that Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) decided to play the bilateral series ahead of the mega event for the youths after failing to manage to the expected third team for the tri-nation.
Even they have already fixed the bilateral series with Sri Lanka in January just before the World Cup. The board informed even Zimbabwe to play the bilateral series with them. Zimbabwe are slated to arrive here in Dhaka on November.
But the series with India is under the process. BCB is communicating with Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to manage the bilateral series. Even the BCB is also planning to organise the franchise-based Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) for the first time in the shape of senior’s team. If the league will roll onto the ground then it will be started in September.
