Chittagong University Teachers’ Association (CUTA) will observe work abstention programme on Sunday, demanding same salaries and allowances for professors and secretaries restoring 8th pay-scale, said a press statement, signed by CUTA General Secretary SM Khosrul Alam Quddusi yesterday. Terming the 8th pay-scale “disgraceful and discriminatory” for university teachers, Khosrul Alam said, they will observe tougher movement if their demand is not met soon. The demands of CUTA also includes same salary for senior professors and senior secretaries, equal status of cabinet secretary and vice-chancellors and ensuring vehicle, housing and other facilities for university teachers like government officials. However, CUTA has been observing different progrrammes with the same demand for three months.
