DU introduces 'Shahid Ullah Gold Medal'
A new gold medal was introduced at Information Science and Library Management Department of Dhaka University (DU) after the name of its former Principal Lab Instructor Md Shahid Ullah.
Wife of late Shahid Ullah, Hasina Akter yesterday handed over a cheque for Taka 10 lakh to DU Vice-Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique at a function at his office on the campus for launching the gold medal titled 'Shahid Ullah Gold Medal', said a DU press release here.
Arts Faculty Dean Professor Abu Md Delwar Hossain, Information Science and Library Management Department Chairman Professor Muhammad Mezbah-ul-Islam, Professor of the department Saiful Islam, acting Registrar of the university and family members of the donor were present, among others, at the function, the release added.
Out of the income of the donation, every year one meritorious student of DU Information Science and Library Management Department will be awarded 'Md. Shahid Ullah Gold Medal' for securing the highest CGPA in MA final examination, the release said.

AIUB-IQAC selected as model for IQACs of private universities
American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) has been selected as the model of the Insti¬tutional Quality Assurance Cells (IQACs) of all the private universities of Bangladesh, says a press release.
A total of 40IQAC directors, additional directors and UGC-QAU (Quality Assurance Unit) visited the AIUB in connection with the training of these officials from 18 public and private universities recently.
The organisers of this training, headed by Prof Sanjoy, for these newly designated IQAC di¬rectors and additional directors selected AIUB representing the private universities and Dhaka University on behalf of the public universities for the needed orientation on how AIUB operates 1 its IQAC in promoting Quality Assurance (QA) at the university level.
AIUB Vice-chancellor Dr Carmen Z Lamagna welcomed all the visitors on the campus. The IQAC orientation was conducted by Prof Dr Charles C Villanueva, Pro-VC of AIUB.

Bangladesh consul in Poland meets DU VC
Bangladesh Consul in Poland Mohammed Omar Faruque on Sunday paid a courtesy call on Vice-chancellor of Dhaka University (DU) Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique at his office on the campus.
Assistant Professor of University of Silesia of Poland Dr Sabina Sweta and Secondary Education Quality and Access Enhancement Project (SEQAEP) of Bangladesh Uzzul Hossain were also present at the meeting, said a DU press release in Dhaka.
During the meeting, they discussed the possibilities of undertaking collaborative academic and research programmes between Dhaka University and University of Silesia of Poland, the release added.
Possibilities of exchanging teachers, researchers and students between the two universities were also discussed in the meeting.
Prof Arefin Siddique thanked the guests for visiting Dhaka University and expressing keen interest in undertaking collaborative academic programmes with DU, the release added.

DU Zahurul Haque Hall Alumni convening committee formed
A convening committee of the Alumni Association of Sergeant Zahurul Haque Hall of Dhaka University has been formed to take preparation of constituting a full-fledged committee and reunion.
Director General of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Benazir Ahmed has been made convener while Iqbal Mahmood Bablu has been named as the member secretary of the committee.
A meeting of former residents of Sergeant Zahurul Haque Hall held at Dhaka University Alumni Association Floor on Saturday made the convening committee, said a press release on Monday.
The committee is given responsibility to organize a reunion of the former residents of the hall in next one year.
Other office bearers of the committee are: Joint Conveners Mustakim Billah Faruki and Aminul Islam Khan Tipu while A K Lutfar Rahman Sentu, Mollah Mohammad Abu Kawser, Ashraful Huq Mukul, M a Kaiyum Mollah, S M Monzur, Mahfuzur Rahman Ripon, A Hamid Zomaddar, A K M Fazlul Huq, Sirajul Islam, Mamtaz Uddin, Mazharul Islam Kajal, Ashraful Islam and Jewel Rana were made members of the committee.

JU discussion on ‘Bangabandhu’ today
SAVAR: Marking the National Mourning Day, authorities of Jahangirnagar University (JU) will hold a discussion on Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman today.
Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu is expected to address the discussion titled ‘Bangabandhu and Bangladesh’ as the chief guest with JU Vice-chancellor Professor Farzana Islam in the chair, said a press release.
The discussion will be held at the seminar room of Jahir Raihan Auditorium at 10:30 am, the release added.
