KHULNA: Speakers at a programme underscored the need for making the Vitamin A plus campaign scheduled to be observed across the country on August 5 successful, reports BSS.
They were addressing an orientation workshop of journalists at School Health Clinic in the city yesterday.
Khulna Civil Surgeon Office and Khulna City Corporation (KCC) jointly organised the event with a view to devising ways and means on how to make the programme a success.
Chaired by Khulna Civil Surgeon Dr SM Abdur Razzak, the programme was addressed by Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr Md Atiar Rahman, Deputy Director of Family Planning of Bangladesh Guru Prashad Ghosh, Deputy Director of Khulna Divisional Information Office Md Javed Iqbal, President of Khulna Union of Journalists (KUJ) SM Zahid Hossain and General Secretary of Khulna Press Club Subir Kumar Roy.
Health Officer of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Swapon Kumar Halder delivered the welcome speech while Medical Officer of Khulna Civil Surgeon Office Dr Farzana Rahman presented the keynote paper.
Dr Farzana said the main goal of the campaign is to keep the rate of night blindness less than one percent.
She said,” Vitamin A supplementation saves life of over 50,000 children each year.”
A total of 1,51,350 babies aged under 12-59 months will be administered red-colour vitamin A capsule in Khulna district while a total of 81,067 babies will be administered red-colour capsule in Khulna city Corporation(KCC) area during the campaign.
Meanwhile, a total of 19,920 babies under 6-11 months will be administered blue-colour capsule in Khulna district while a total of 10,775 babies will be administered in KCC area.
A total of 5,526 volunteers will work at 2,393 centres during the campaign.
Another report adds from Rajshahi: Around 2.97 lakh children under five years of age will be administered vitamin 'A' Plus capsules on National Vitamin 'A' Plus Campaign-2017, on August 5 (1st round) in nine upazilas of the district.
The campaign will begin at 8am at 1,856 centres and continue till 4pm. A total of 1,744 outreach vaccination centres will be set up by Rajshahi Civil Surgeon office.
Over 3,712 volunteers, 376 family welfare assistants and 241 healthassistants would be engaged for giving vitamin 'A' Plus capsules to the children aged from zero to 5 years in the district.
Civil Surgeon Dr Sanjit Kumar Saha revealed this at a pre-campaign press conference here yesterday.
Our correspondent adds from Gazipur: A total of 95712 children will be given vitamin A plus in National vitamin A plus campaign in the city area. Chief executive officer of Gazipur City Corporation KM Rahatul Islam disclosed the information in a view exchange meeting with local journalists at the conference room of Gazipur City Corporation yesterday.
