Ministers urge people to resist child abuse

Awami League ministers yesterday urged people to be united and build social resistance against violence against children across the country. They said people must stand up against the brutality and abominable activities against children and stop this immediately. The ministers were addressing various programmes in the city. Speaking at a programme, food minister Quamrul Islam said no one can raise questions against the government’s stand on such brutality. The Sheikh Hasina government has directed the authorities concerned to take stern action against child abusers, he added. “We did not stage any Joz miah drama in the name of trial in the past. The trial process of every killing incident is going on in a fair manner. Those responsible for the incidents are being arrested. Nobody can escape the trial process,” he said. He was addressing a discussion organised by the Bangamata Fazilatunnessa Mujib Parishad at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU), marking the 85thbirth anniversary of Bangamata Fazilatunnessa Mujib. Quamrul, also the joint general secretary of the AL’s Dhaka city unit, said those involved in such atrocious incidents will be brought under speedy trial. About the BNP’s movement, the minister said it could be that BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia has returned to healthy politics. However, her party leaders and activists must have to face trial for committing crimes during their three months of unjustified hartal and blockade.
