Post of addl press secy to be created in PMO

DEEPAK ACHARJEE

A new post, that of "additional press secretary", will be created in the press wing of the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) for deputy press secretary (DPS), Md Nazrul Islam. This is being done to strengthen the Prime Minister’s press wing. As per the desire of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the post would be created under the Prime Minister’s (Remuneration and Privileges) Act, 1975, sources in the PMO said.

The finance ministry and the public administration ministry have given clearance for the new post for one year and it will require approval every year, the sources added.

For creating the post, the PMO has prepared a proposal which is likely to be placed at the next meeting of the secretary committee on administration improvement affairs on August 2. Dr Md Shahidullah, director (administration) of the PMO, said in the proposal that the post would be created for Md Nazrul Islam, deputy press secretary to the PM.

“Recently, Md. Nazrul Islam was promoted to the post of additional secretary (salary scale Tk. 66,000-76,490). As the post of the DPS is equivalent to that of a deputy secretary (DS), it was not proper for him to continue as DPS. The new post of ‘additional press secretary’ would be created as there is no post between the DPS and the press secretary in the PMO,” the proposal added.

According to the proposal, “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has already consented to create the post.”  There are 12 posts in the press wing of the PMO. Ihsanul Karim is the press secretary, Monirun Nessa, Nazrul Islam, Muhammad Ashraful Alam Khokan and Mamun-or-Rashid are deputy press secretaries, while Asif Kabir, MM Emrul Kayas and M Ashraf Siddiquee (Bitu) are assistant press secretaries.

Romana Sharmin, Gul Shahana and Md Shawon Choudhury are assistant directors and Habibur Rahman Habib is the personal photographer.
