Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will hold its 17th executive meeting today at its headquarters at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur with Extra-Ordinary General Meeting (EGM) in focus. The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has recently given BCB the power to amend the constitution.
A three-member bench of the Appellate Division, headed by Chief Justice SK Sinha, passed the order disposing of an appeal filed against a High Court (HC) order that had declared the amended constitution of BCB illegal. In its observation, the court said NSC cannot interfere in the activities of Bangladesh Cricket Board.
On January 27, 2013, an HC bench declared the amended constitution of the BCB illegal after hearing a writ petition.
The Supreme Court order has come as a relief for BCB as it is gearing up for its next election. The EGM is needed to have necessary amendments in the constitution.
The BCB is yet to get the copy of the full verdict and therefore they can’t take a decision on when the EGM will be held, said BCB media and communications committee chairman Jalal Yunus. But the BCB will discuss about the court’s verdict and its next step in today’s meeting, Jalal added.
