Tournament favourites Acme Rajshahi Masters’ high hopes were shattered when they shared the championship of the Walton Masters Cricket Carnival (MCC) 2017 owing to the rains yesterday.
At the Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium (SKICS) in Cox’s Bazar, Expo All Stars Masters decided to bat first after winning the toss and compiled a comprehensive 134 for three in the stipulated 15 overs.
Even though All Stars Masters lost their first wicket in the space of 21 runs, they recovered it by the second stand of 55 from Ehsanul Haque Sheezan and Rashidul Hasan Sumon. Sheezan, who played better cricket in the last back-to-back matches, got out for 24.
But Rashidul Haque Sumon piloted the innings and brought the total from 81 to 135 with Masudur Rahman Mukul. Sumon clubbed an invaluable 58 off 42 that embellished with four maximum and five boundaries in his 70-minute stay at wickets.
Mukul smashed an unbeaten 16 off nine deliveries with the help of two fours.
Pacer Monjurul Islam Monju and Alamgir Kabir claimed one wicket each for Rajshahi Masters.
Chasing the target to lift their maiden MCC title, Rajshahi’s high hopes were evaporated when the rains intervened the proceeding. The match was stopped for over an hour from 11:50am to 1:05pm. The rain yet again made its inroad when Rajshahi batted for only 2.1 overs.
Therefore, the rain kept falling also. The match finally was abandoned and the match referee later declared both Rajshahi Masters and All Stars Masters as the joint champions.
