Brothers Union and BJMC began their Saif Power Battery Bangladesh Premier League football with goalless draw yesterday at the Bangabandhu National Stadium.
In the last season also both sides shared points after a 1-1 draw in the first leg but in the second phase encounter Brothers just outclassed BJMC by 4-1, this time the Gopibagh outfit not looked to be sharp as they were in previous time.
The day’s first match was almost a dull one when in the BJMC dominated encounter none of the teams could display their real performance, as they were not looked lively and most of the times it was a bore game.
Brothers finished previous edition on fourth place while BJMC were ninth but the former in their first match was not exuberant, as most of the 90 minute times they had to play under pressure.
However, the day’s better side BJMC produced the first close move in the very first minute though failed to open spaces inside the box.
BJMC could have taken the lead in the 15th minute when they created a real chance with Abdullah Al Mamun paved the way.
Mamun made a good sprint to receive a long ball and leaving behind his marker before entering the box and chopped a tidy cross in front of the post but Mohammed Sharif failed to connect to push the ball into near post.
Four minutes later another scoring chance came to BJMC ways but Kingsley Oshipkha having the Brothers goalkeeper Kamal Hossain Titu failed to beat him (GK).
Under the Italian coach Giovanni, Brothers did not look a pretty organised while BJMC coach Zakaria Babu’s boys were more disciplined and had the maximum control in the opening 45 minutes and also went closer to take lead for twice.
Brothers who could produce a lone chance in the first half on 33rd minute, had a good opportunity to take lead but Mohammed Rony was a bit late to shot past the goalkeeper when he was in open space after receiving a through pass inside the box.
After the goalless first half, BJMC kept their dominance, though Brothers were a bit better with producing some counter attacks and also went closer but failed to make any real threat. BJMC, despite keeping their control failed to score any goal.
