Boy abducted from Narail   rescued in Pabna

NARAIL: A minor boy abducted from Kalia upazila of the district was rescued by police from Atgharia upazila in Pabna district, reports BSS.

Police Super of Narail Sarder Rakibul Islam said at a press briefing in the town yesterday. The victim is Babul, 10, hailed from Bombbag village of Kalia upazila

The Police Super said Babul, a class four student, was abducted by a few miscreants on July 22 in front of their house. His mother Josna Begum filed a case on July 25 following the abduction. The miscreants demanded ransom to Josna Begum. Tracking mobile phone calls Narail police rescued Babul from Atgharia upazila in Pabna district yesterday with the help of Pabna police.

Narail police also held a man following the abduction.

Man, daughter-in-law get life term in rape case

A court in Noakhali yesterday sentenced a man and his daughter-in-law to life term imprisonment in a rape case.

The court also fined the convicts Tk 10,000, in default, to suffer six months more in rigorous imprisonment.

The convicts were Main Uddin and his daughter-in-law Halima Begum of Shakerchar village in Sadar upazila.

Besides, the court asked the deputy collector to take necessary steps to bear the expenses of the rape victim and to identify the rape victim child as the child of the rapist and the victim.

According to the prosecution, the convict Main Uddin, with the help of Halima, violated a young girl for several times with a promise to marry her on April 4, 2005.

When she got pregnant, the rapist refused to marry her. On October 30, 2005, the victim filed a case against the duo under Women and Child Repression Prevention Act.

During the trial proceedings, the victim gave birth to a baby girl.

After hearing the records and 21 witnesses, Laxmipur Additional District and Sessions Judge Saidur Rahman Gazi handed down the verdict.

‘Thief’ lynched in Jhenidah

A suspected thief was lynched by angry mob at Boro Bamundia village in Kotchandpur upazila of Jhenidah district early yesterday.

The deceased was Faruk 40, a resident of Gazirhat village in Kalia upazila of Narail.

Biplob Kumar Saha, officer-in-charge of Kotchandpur police station, said Faruk entered the house of Amirul Islam around 3am and tried to steal valuables.

As the inmates sensed the intruder’s presence, they screamed out for help. Hearing the hue and cry, locals rushed in and caught the man red-handed. At one stage, the angry locals gave him a good thrashing, leaving him critically injured. The injured was rushed to Kotchandpur Upazila Health Complex where he succumbed to his injuries around 6am.

JMB man arrested

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested an alleged member of banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) in Raghunathpur Roadpara area of Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj district on Wednesday night.

The arrestee is Jamal Hossain, 50, of Ranihati Masterpara in the upazila.

Tipped off that a group of JMB men is gathering near the mosque in Raghunathpur Roadpara area at 3am, a team of RAB members conducted a drive and arrested Jamal along with some Jihadi books, said Rajshahi Mollapara Rab Camp-5 Major AM Ashraful Islam.

Jamal is an activist of JMB, said the RAB official.

A case was filed with Shibganj Police Station.

Youth dies from snakebite

A young man died from snakebite at Gazipur village in Avaynagar upazila of Jessore on Wednesday.

The victim was Alamgir Hossain, 17, a worker of Naopara Akij Jute Mill of the village.

Deceased’s elder brother Nasir Sardar said Alamgir was bitten by a venomous snake during fishing in a water body in the evening. Later, he died around 7pm.
