RAJSHAHI: Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) Shafiqul Islam has sought community support to make the Rajshahi metropolis free from addiction of different drugs and narcotics along with trading and trafficking of those, reports BSS.
”If you (community people) give us authentic information against the drug traders and businessmen, stern action will be taken against them within 24 hours,” he further said while addressing a prize-giving ceremony of a children fine-arts competition here today as the chief guest.
RMP organised the competition and its prize-distribution programme at Nanking Darbar Hall to mark the International Day of Abuse of Drugs and illicit Trafficking.
With Additional Director of Department of Drugs and Narcotics Control Mujibur Rahman Patwary in the chair, Additional Commissioner of Rajshahi division Aminul Islam, Superintendent of Police Muazzem Hossain Bhuiyan and Additional Deputy Commissioner Md Salah Uddin also spoke.
Shafiqul Islam said RMP is committed to eliminate drug addiction and it has adopted a zero-tolerance strategy in this regard.
As a result, many of the drug-traders and addicts have started returning back to the path of light from darkness. At present, there is no relation between any policeman and drug-traders, the RMP commissioner added.
