A group of students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) will lay siege to the administrative building for indefinite period from July 31 demanding the withdrawal of VC house vandalism case filed against 56 students.
This student’s platform declared their new programme at a press met at the Teachers students’ centre of the university.
Besides, they announced to bring out a torch procession on July 30 evening from Dairy Gate, as a part of their movement.
At the press meet, they placed a four-point demand, including withdrawal of case against 56 JU students, reformation of investigation committee by the university authority with impartial personalities, trial of police attack and ensuring safety highway.
‘As the university did not take any initiative to withdraw case, so we are forced to go tougher movement’, said BSU Secretary Nazir Amin Chowdhury Joy.
President of Student Front of JU unit Sushmita Moriam read out the written speech at the press meet.
Leaders and activists of left leaning student’s unity were present among others.
Earlier, the agitated students started hunger strike with the same demands which was withdraw as JU Pro Vice-chancellor Professor Amir Hossain and JU Teachers’ Association assured them to stat the withdrawal process of case against the students.
After withdrawing of hunger strike, the agitated students placed a 7 days ultimatum to JU authority to withdraw case.
Mentionable, on May 26, marketing student Nazmul Hasan Rana, 24, and microbiology student Arafat, 24, were killed as a bus hit a human haulier carrying them on Dhaka-Aricha highway in Savar's C&B bus stand area.
Afterwards, agitating students blocked the highway demanding speed breakers there. But police fired rubber bullets and teargas canisters to disperse them. At least 10 people, including students, a JU official and two journalists, were injured.
Later, they besieged the VC's residence. During the demonstration, 42 JU students were held and later shown arrested in the vandalism case filed by Registrar Abu Bakr Siddique.
The next day, all the 42 were released on bail.
