Government Titumir College student M Siddiqur Rahman who suffered serious eye injuries during a police action at Shahbagh will be flown to Chennai of India tomorrow for better treatment, reports UNB.

Health Minister Mohammad Nasim came up with the announcement while talking to reporters at the National Institute of Ophthalmology and Hospital in the evening yesterday.

Meanwhile, Parikshit Chowdhury, Information Office of the Health and Family Welfare Ministry, said Siddiqur will be taken to Sankara Nethralaya in Chennai where his treatment will begin on Friday.

On last Thursday, a group of students from seven colleges affiliated with Dhaka University demonstrated at Shahbagh demanding announcement of their examination schedules.

Siddiqur, a third-year political science student of Titumir College, suffered injuries to his both eyes as police lobbed teargas shells to disperse the demonstrating students.

On Saturday morning, Siddiqur underwent surgery at the National Institute of Ophthalmology and Hospital, but doctors said there is a little chance for him to recover fully.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan yesterday said another probe body will be formed to investigate the incident of Titumir college student M Siddiqur Rahman during police action that caused injuries to his eyes.

“DMP has formed a body to probe whether police had any negligence during the incident in which Siddiqur was injured. If the report seems unsatisfactory, then the ministry itself will form another probe committee to investigate the matter,” he said.

The home minister came up with the remarks while talking to reporters at the Department of Narcotics Control after attending a discussion over the upcoming International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking to be observed today.
